Yasir Ashfaq joined the Male Champions of Change Pakistan group in 2018

With over 22 years of experience Yasir Ashfaq is working as the Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan Microfinance Investment Company (PMIC) since August 2017. PMIC also plays the important role of sector developer by contributing at policy levels. Yasir has been instrumental in the development of the microfinance sector of Pakistan. He has had a clear emphasis on sustainability and creating an impact during the last ten years.

In his previous assignment as Group Head, Financial Services Group with Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) he worked with microfinance institutions; especially of small and medium size in strengthening their systems, management and governance. This has further strengthened the basic infrastructure of the sector. This helped sector growth during the last few years and it is now rated amongst the best in the world. Moreover, he also managed livelihood improvement health, education and social mobilization portfolios of PPAF.

Prior to pursuing his passion of financial inclusion, poverty alleviation and a sustainable microfinance sector, Yasir has served at several important positions in commercial and investment banks for more than twelve years. His diverse banking experience has been in the areas of Treasury, corporate finance, accounts & finance, investment banking and product development.

He serves on various Committees of National Financial Inclusion and Central Bank and Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan and Planning Commission. Yasir has played an active role in development of regulatory regime for the sector. He is a regular speaker at Summits, Conference and Meetings at national and international forums. Yasir is well recognized internationally, as an expert of running apex institutions and their transition based on the new realities of microfinance sector.

Yasir is a Fellow member of the Institute of Cost & Management Accountants (ICMA) of Pakistan and holds a master’s degree in Economics from University of Sydney, Australia. He has done numerous Leadership courses from international reputed universities.
