Peter Chamley is Chair of Arup’s Australasia Region and a member of Arup’s Group Board. Prior to his regional appointment, he was the firm’s global infrastructure leader. For more than 40 years, Peter has led and delivered infrastructure developments and major civil engineering projects worldwide, including in the UK, Hong Kong, Australia and the USA.
As Region Chair, Peter represents a team of 3000 employees located in 13 offices across Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. His focus is to build on and develop new collaborations and partnerships to address city leaders’ universal challenges of congestion, air and water quality, housing and employment creation – in particular, finding solutions to do more with less, to be sustainable and innovative while creating economic and social value.
Peter is actively involved as a member of the Programme Board of The Resilience Shift – a global programme advancing best practices and accelerating the shift towards better, more resilient infrastructure, shaping a better and safer world.
Peter is also a member of the Male Champions of Change Institute as part of the MCC Consult Australia group. He is aware that despite years of effort we have not achieved equality of opportunity for all and that many people remain disadvantaged and unable to achieve their potential. He is mindful of the role he can play in helping to remove barriers and create opportunities, not only for women, but for all people. As a leading member of Arup’s Diversity & Inclusion Executive, he is a strong advocate and champion of the firm’s diversity and inclusion strategy.
